He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his home in Orangeburg, South Carolina with his grandson Byron Keitt near his side. He grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina and attended Riverside School. He developed a trade and became a professional painter and a freelance writer of poems. Former owner and contractor of Odell Flood's Painting, he provided contracted services throughout Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg, Charleston, Columbia and other surrounding counties and states. He trained numerous professional painters throughout South Carolina. He mentored many young men throughout his career of over 40 years and nurtured and fed many in the community. Odell was a dedicated member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Preceding him in death are three brothers, David Jr. Flood, DeSelle Flood, Robert Flood, Isaiah Flood and three sisters, Marie James, Eloise Dowling, and Elaine Byrd. He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters Maxine (Flood) Williams of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Loreatha (Terrence) Jenkins of Kingsland, Georgia; four sons, Odell (Karen) Flood, Jr. of Taylor Michigan, Antoine (Alicia) Flood of Chesapeake Virginia, Earnest (Natalie) Peeples of Greenville South Carolina, and Willie (Carolyn) Peeples of Orangeburg, South Carolina; one sister, Mary Beckles of Indian Town, Florida; one brother, Jackie Hutto of Philadelphia Pennsylvania; fourteen grand-children Byron, Earnest Jr., Michael, Marcellus, Andrew, DaKari, Jaden, Xavier, Chelsea, Quanteya, Quandreya, Ashley, Destinee`Faith, Trinity, and three great-grand-children Mariah, Emri, and Michelle; a special nephew, Troy Flood; brother in-law, Hercules Byrd; sister in-law, Ada Mae Flood; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
