Larry McCutcheon A memorial service will be conducted by members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. on Wednesday, May 6th at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Patricia was born on December 24, 1951 to the late Arthur Rose, Sr. and Elizabeth McMillan Rose, in Queens, NY. She spent her formative years attending Felton Training School on the Campus of South Carolina State College and was one of the nineteen children who desegregated the public schools in the City of Orangeburg, SC in 1964. She was the only African American student at Thackston Junior High School that year. She graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1969. Patricia began her college studies at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, then returned to Orangeburg where she attended and graduated from South Carolina State College in 1974 with a B.A in History. She had additional studies at South Carolina State in the field of Education. Career highlights included work in Flint, Michigan as a Transitional Specialist and Employment Trainer with the Flint, Michigan Board of Education. She also served as Director of Education and Youth Services with The Urban League in Columbus, Ohio. Patricia also implemented a Pre-Apprenticeship Program with The Urban League in Louisville, KY as Coordinator/ Employment Specialist and later returned to South Carolina in 1990 to serve as Director of the Honors College Program at Claflin University for two years. Following that period, she worked as Director of the Community Service Block Grant Program with Orangeburg -Calhoun-Allendale-Bamberg Community Action Agency, Inc. She, then, began work with Orangeburg School District Five as Family Education Coordinator. She returned to Claflin to serve in her last place of employment, as Assistant Curator for the Arthur Rose Museum. Patricia was a creative jewelry maker and artist. She enjoyed storytelling and was a free spirit. She could make herself at home anywhere. When asked, "how is Patricia?", the response was usually, "She is Patricia!" She was one of a kind, a lover of life. Patricia is preceded in death by her son, Askia Moshe. Cherishing Patricia's precious memories are her mother Elizabeth, son Yusef (Kristy), brothers, Arthur ( Sara) Rose, Jr., Bernard (Loretta )Rose; a sister, Marcia Rose-Randolph, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
