Paulena was born on June 8, 1966 in Bamberg, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Esther Lee Jackson and Betty Lee Jackson.  She entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 19, 2018, at her residence.

Paulena was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.  She graduated from Denmark Technical College where she received an Associate's degree in 2008.  She later went to Voorhees College in 2012 and received a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences.  Paulena was employed at Hubbell in Aiken, South Carolina for four years and worked as a librarian assistant at Voorhees College for seven years.

In 1999, Paulena united in holy matrimony to Curtis Hammond.  This union was blessed with two children.

Cherishing Paulena's memories are her husband of 19 years, Curtis Hammond; her son, Jaleel Rashad Hammond; a daughter,  Jadasha Hammond; one grandson, Kayden Hammond; one stepson, Curtis Hammond; three sisters, Patricia Anderson, Lakesia (Willie) Dowling and Linda (Savoy) Wright; three brothers, Jerry Jackson,Tommy (Angel) Jackson and Michael Jackson; a mother-in-law, Eartha Mae Ferguson; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Viewing for the public will be held on Friday from 1:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the Blackville Chapel.
