On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, Paulette H. McDonald was
visited by the Angel of Mercy and a precious soul left to be with the
Lord.

Mrs. Paulette Celeste Hall McDonald, daughter of the late
Ernest and Gladys Greene of Harvey, IL was born December 22, 1951
and departed this life on September 6, 2022 in her home.
From an early age, Paulette was raised by her grandparents, Phinnise
and Wisba Greene of Bamberg, SC. She joined Thankful Baptist Church
and remained there until the end.

Paulette graduated from Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School in 1970.
She then attended and graduated from SC Area Trade School with a
degree in Business. Before starting her career in law enforcement,
Paulette worked at Voorhees College as the secretary in the library. She
began her law enforcement career with the Bamberg Police Department
as a secretary and was promoted to dispatcher and then to Victims'
Advocate. It was during this time that Paulette met the late James
Andrew McDonald. They married on January 2, 1981.
Wanting to advance her career, Paulette joined the Bamberg County
Sheriff's Department in 1990. After graduating from the SC Criminal
Justice Academy in Columbia, SC, Paulette became the first African
American female deputy of the Bamberg County Sheriff's Office, following the lead of her mentor, the late Chief Deputy Charles H. Grimes
who was the first African American male with the Sheriff's Office.
Paulette retired as Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office in 2017. After
retirement, she decided to work part time at Bamberg Legal, LLC, gaining even more family and friends.

During my mom's years with us she gained a host of children and
grandchildren that loved her as is she was their own.

Paulette was preceded in death by her husband, James A. McDonald,
grandson, Xavier Chandler Lee McDonald, and daughter, Jamie Shante
Goodwin.

She leaves to mourn her passing: one daughter, Nata'cha Tamara
(Ricky) McDonald Whitlow of Nashville, TN; three sons through marriage,
James Darryl McDonald of Newport News, VA, Brian Keith McDonald
of Columbia, SC and Gregory Eris McDonald of Newport News, VA as
well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
