Professor Madakasira Gopala Krishna was born February 3, 1938 in
Madhugiri, India to Madakasira Venkata Narasimhachar and Sunandamma. He
was the fourth son in a family of five brothers and five sisters. He entered
eternal rest on February 20, 2026.

In his youth, he would read about the abundance of opportunities posed
by western countries, and dreamed of living in the United States, where
he would be able to live a comfortable life and provide better for his
family. After enduring difficulties posed by discrimination from the
caste system in India, he chose to pursue a Doctorate at Clarkson
University starting in 1969, and graduated with a PhD in Mathematics in
1973. He taught as a professor of Math and Computer Science at South
Carolina State University from 1978 to 2008, instilling in students a
desire to learn as well as a discipline to become better than when they
showed up in the classroom.

Gopala was preceded in death by his wife Jaya Krishna, whom he loved
dearly.

He is survived by his three sons, Raju, Mohan, and Ramesh, as
well as three grandchildren.
