In the beginning, Remell Jones was born one of four children to the union of the late Mrs. Catherine Graham Jones and the late Mr. Thomas Jones. This great birth occurred on Wednesday, March 29, 1944 in Barnwell County, South Carolina. Remell was a native of Blackville, South Carolina.

Remell attended the old Ebenezer school in Blackville, South Carolina and earned a nickname from her husband that remained with her throughout her life, "CHICK".

At an early age, Remell joined and became a baptized member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Elko, South Carolina. Later in life, Remell moved her membership to St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Millette, South Carolina, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board. In 2005, Remell united with the fellowship and membership at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Blackville, South Carolina under the pastoral watch of Dr. Floyd Hughes, Sr. Mother Harley was a proud and active member of Macedonia and worshiped faithfully until her health began to decline. She often expressed how God had blessed Macedonia and the surrounding communities with the best pastor. SHE LOVED PASTOR HUGHES! Remell also attended worship services at Ned Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina. "HALLELUJAH" was Mother Harley's signature saying during Sunday Morning Worship.

On December 25, 1963, Remell was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life and lifetime companion, James "Bo" Harley, Sr., and together they raised five children: Shirley Shree, Bettie Anne, Barbara Ann, James Jr. and their baby boy, Bobby James. Several nieces and nephews were reared in the household. Unfortunately on Tuesday, September 15, 1981, Remell became a widow at the early age of 37. However, this was not a deterrent for her as she relied upon much prayer and hard work to provide for her children. She clothed, fed, nurtured and loved them unconditionally. She raised her children in a Christian home and she showed love and kindness to EVERYONE she met.

To many it may appear Remell lived a quiet and simple life. She relied upon the scripture: Matthew 21:22 "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive". She exemplified this in her strong desire to live to see her children worship God and live self-sustaining lives. Remell enjoyed a successful career at the Sunbeam Corporation in Denmark, South Carolina, where she worked for many years until 1972. Remell also was a loving and compassionate caretaker for a number of her family members, including her mother and grandmother, while caring for her husband and children at the same time.

Remell owned the best restaurant in town (HER KITCHEN) serving delicious home-cooked meals to any and everyone who stopped by. Some of her signature dishes were her famous fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, pink salmon & rice, Hog Jaw and Fatback.

In her leisure time, Remell enjoyed watching Westerns, watching Family Feud, completing puzzle books, cooking, cleaning, dancing and listening to music. Some of Remell's favorite songs were: Silent Night, I Just Can't Give Up Now, I Just Stopped By, Precious Lord, I Won't Complain and When I Need Him Most. Everyone who truly knew Remell, knew her greatest joy was being with her FAMILY…no matter how small or large the occasion.

The beauty of REMELL'S STORY is through all she did, was, and is - life was never really easy for her, she just made it seem that way to us. To us, Remell's story is one of resilience and all that she has done will be cherished FOREVER!

During the night hours of Friday, November 15, 2024, Mother Remell J. Harley saw the gates of Heaven open as God dispatched his Angels to bring her home. God touched her heart and whispered, "Come on home. You've earned your rest, your body is weary, you've done your best". Remell made her permanent change of address from Earth to Heaven while resting in bed at the home of her daughter Bettie in Blackville, South Carolina, at the age of 80.

In addition to her grandparents, Remell was preceded in death and is now resting with her beloved husband: James "Bo" Harley, Sr.; parents: father, Thomas Jones and mother, Catherine G. Jones; (1) one daughter: Shirley S. Harley; (1) one granddaughter: Landrea Harley; (2) two bonus daughters: Linda Ansley and Ann Laura Johnson; (1) one bonus granddaughter: Carolyn Ansley Ferguson; (1) one brother: Joe Lewis Jones; (2) two sisters: Elouise Jones Johnson and Herlie Mae Jones Staley; her parents-in-law: Frank Harley, Sr. and Ethel Delve Harley; and a host of other family members. Imagine the family reunion that occurred when Remell entered Heaven's gates.

Forever in our hearts, Mother Remell J. Harley leaves heart-throbbing memories to: (2) two loving daughters: Bettie Harley Salley (Randy, Sr.) of the home and Barbara Harley Davis (Antonio) of Barnwell, South Carolina; (2) two wonderful sons: James Harley, Jr. and Bobby J. Harley, Sr. both of Blackville, South Carolina; (3) three bonus sons: Carmichael Williams of Blackville, South Carolina, Jerry Summerlin of Gatson, Alabama and Robert Sapp (Patricia) of Virgina; (2) two bonus daughters: Katherine Johnson of Bamberg, South Carolina and Gloria Fribley (Winfield) of Brooksdale, Florida; (16) sixteen grandchildren: LoToya C. Mays, Kendra L. Harley, Tenika Calhoun, Bobby C. Harley, Javaris Dukes, Chandresh L. Harley, Bobby J. Harley, Jr., Shamon Harley-Gilmore (Ro), Steven Ansley, Stephanie Ansley, Curtis Ansley, Randy E. Salley, Jr., Dania S. Gilyard (Angelo), Victoria T. Anthony, Tia Rumph and Jaylyn Anthony; (31) thirty-one great-grandchildren; (3) brothers: Amos Jones (Sherrie Ann), Joe Lewis Jones (Betty), and Joseph Jones (Estella) all of Aiken, South Carolina; (2) two brothers-in-law: Deacon William Harley (Elouise) and William Ray both of Blackville, South Carolina; (2) two sisters-in-law: Hattie Harley of Blackville, South Carolina and Dorothy Harley of Atlanta, Georgia; a devoted nephew: Jordan R. Gibson of Blackville, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends who share in the fondest of memories.
