At an early age, he realized the need of a Savior and joined Cherry Grove Christian Church D.O.C. where he served in many capacities. Charles was educated at Fairfax Elementary School, Denmark-Olar High School, Voorhees College and Lexington Theology South University. Rev. Black accepted the call into the ministry and served as pastor of Galilee Christian Church located in Nashville, Tennessee, East Maple Church, located in Lexington, Kentucky, Hutto Chapel located in Hilda, South Carolina, Gethsemane Baptist Church located in Bamberg, South Carolina, Cherry Grove Christian Church D.O.C. located in Brunson, South Carolina, Tabernacle Baptist Church located in Blackville, South Carolina and was the founding pastor of Light of the Word and Alpha and Omega Christian Ministries located in Bamberg, South Carolina. He was also employed with several mental health agencies located in Bamberg, Florence, Marion and Orangeburg, South Carolina and also worked with the Department of Juvenile Justice in Bamberg, South Carolina. Reverend Charles A. Black leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Rosa Black; two sons, Chauncey Chuck Black of Concord, NC and Tommy Guess of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Koshia Black of Orangeburg, SC and Tammy Guess Jones of Columbia, SC; his loving parents, Elder Charles E. Black and Deaconess Clara G. Black, a sister-in-law, Betty Mack; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Friday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A wake is scheduled at Alpha and Omega Christian Ministries, 67 Elm Street, Bamberg, SC from 6:00- 8:00. Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.
