Mr. Robert Elmore Steedley was born on December 18, 1940 in Denmark, South Carolina to the late Helen and Theodore Steedley. He joined Springfield United Methodist Church in Denmark, South Carolina at an early age. After marriage to Helen James, he joined Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Bamberg, South Carolina. He was a member of the United Methodist Men Choir, the United Methodist Men Organization and a former usher and Trustee. He attended Voorhees Schools in Denmark, South Carolina. Robert worked for Grey Hound Bus Lines for many years before retiring. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Helen Steedley; four children, Helen Theresa (Mark ) King of Columbia, Maryland, Robert Lorenzo (Tasha) Steedley, Green Acres, Florida, Anthony Levelle (Nicole) Steedley of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Audrey Steedley of Warner Robins, Georgia; a stepson, Alfonzo (Ellen) James of Dillon, South Carolina; two brothers, Joe Louis (Ethel) Steedley of Leesburg, Florida, Tony (Sharon) Steedley of Denmark, South Carolina; three sisters, Dororthy Douglas of Washington, DC, Emma Ruth Branch of Brooklyn, New York and Ruphine Steedley of Denmark, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Neveah James of the home; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Sellers, Thomasina (Raymond) Ottley, Mildred Wiggins, Mary James and Hattie James all of Bamberg, SC; one brother-in-law, Joseph James of Bamberg, South Carolina; and a host of caring relatives and friends.
