Gregory Young **Mr. Jenkins will be placed in the sanctuary of the church one hour prior to the service. Roger Sylvester Jenkins, Jr., the oldest son of the late Roger S. Jenkins, Sr. and Carrie Louise Bovian Jenkins was born on April 11, 1944. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 13, 2014 at his home in Orangeburg. Roger attended Felton Laboratory School in Orangeburg and graduated from Mc-Crorey Liston High School in Blair, SC in 1962. He went to Bethune-Cookman College in Florida and later joined the US Navy in 1964. Roger joined the Mike Curb Congregation as a lead singer, after leaving the Navy. Through this group he had television exposure with stars such as Donnie and Marie Osmond, Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, Merv Griffin, and Sammy Davis Jr. Some highlights of his career include performing in the Broadway Musical Hair at the Las Vegas Hilton, a guest appearance at the Republican National Convention in 1972, appearance at Caesar's Palace and at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, a three month tour with Liberace, recording sessions on the H & F Record "Small World" for the Disney album, an NBC-TV Fourth of July special with Bob Hope, Dionne Warwick, Ernie Ford, and others, and a singing/dancing role in the movie "The Magic of Lassie" starring Jimmy Stewart, Mickey Rooney, and Alice Faye. He also performed with Carol Channing, Red Skelton, Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, Eddy Arnold, Johnny Mathis, Burt Bacharach, Glen and Mickey Rooney. Roger worked for Denny's and South Carolina State University (SCSU) managing the student center restaurant "The Pitt" once he left the entertainment business. After retiring from SCSU, he opened Mister J's Café and Catering in Orangeburg. Roger was a Trustee at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and served on the Men's Ministry and the Mass Choir. He never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Shirlan Jenkins; daughters: Camille (Alan) Watson of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jeanette Jenkins of Hollywood, CA, Donyale (Erich) Mosley-Crosby of Orangeburg, SC; sons: Joaquin (Kimberly) Marvin of Cinncinati, OH, Roger (Dr. Jennifer) Jenkins, III, Ontario, Canada, Christopher Jenkins of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Jacquelyn Marvin, Dumarkis Marvin, Kobi Marvin, Tristin Marvin, Judge Marvin, Alexis Jenkins, Brynn Jenkins, Ethan Crosby; one sister: Dr. Carolyn (Dr. Willie) Woodbury; two brothers: Edward (Jennifer) Jenkins, John Jenkins; and a host of devoted nieces and nephews; and loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Sunday between the hours of 12:00 noon- 4:00 pm. The family will greet friends at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church between the hours of 6:00- 8:00 pm.
