Young ** Mrs. Jenkins will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Mrs. Ruthine D. Jenkins was born on February 11, 1940 to Clarence Darby, Sr. and Rebecca Kelly- Darby. She lost her battle with cancer on Monday, January 27, 2014. Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the choir, a member of Ward #4, the Women's Guild and the Companion Club. She was an active worker in her community with the CBAA #82 and the UP Society. Mrs. Jenkins was a graduate of Wilkinson High School Class of 1959. She worked at Public School #6 in Yonkers, New York, Edisto School District, Hardees and as a senior companion with OCAB. Ruthine was the wife of the late George R. Jenkins. This union was blessed with three children. Mrs. Jenkins is preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Darby, Jr. and sisters, Alice Darby and Evangelist Bamberg. Cherishing her precious memories are: three children, Christine Jenkins of Columbia, SC, Donna Jenkins of Charlotte, NC and Bernard (Gloria) Jenkins of Gaston, SC; one grandson, Dontrell Jenkins- Bailey of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Helen Darby and Deloris (Leroy) McClain both of Orangeburg, SC; a brother, Leroyal Darby of Kershaw, SC; eight nephews; sixteen nieces and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing will be held on Friday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence of her sister, Deloris (Leroy) McClain, 844 Heyward Drive, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.
