Sadie Queenell Memminger (née Joyner), daughter of the late Sidney Joyner and Flossie Hayes Joyner, was born on May 19, 1945, in Bamberg, South Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on February 3, 2025.

Sadie received her early education in the public schools of Bamberg and Orangeburg, South Carolina. At a young age, she joined Orange Grove United Methodist Church, where she was an active member until she married and moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1964. This union was blessed with three children. While in Brooklyn, she became a devoted member of New Canaan Baptist Church, where she participated in various choirs, boards, and clubs.

Throughout her years in Brooklyn, Sadie held numerous positions in different fields. She worked as a substitute teacher at several daycare centers, performed clerical and file clerk duties at Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Chase Manhattan banks, and served as an office associate at the Department of Social Services, she also worked as a home health professional.

Sadie was deeply involved in her community. She worked as a census enumerator, going door to door to ensure an accurate count. She also served as the secretary for the daycare PTA and was an active member of the Eastern Star, both in Brooklyn and later upon returning to her hometown of Bamberg in the Bethlehem Chapter Number 50, where she served as treasurer.

On April 19, 1997, Sadie married Jimmie Memminger. They resided in Walterboro, South Carolina, where they were members of St. Paul CME Church. There, she continued her passion for music and service, joining several choirs and church boards. She also worked as a substitute teacher in the local elementary, middle, and high schools.

Following Jimmie's passing, Sadie returned to Bamberg, where she resumed her membership at Orange Grove United Methodist Church and continued working as a substitute teacher. In her later years, she found companionship with Willie Sapp, with whom she shared a loving bond until her passing.

After moving back to Bamberg, Sadie rejoined Orange Grove United Methodist Church, where she remained a dedicated member, singing in the choir and serving on various committees, including the United Women in Faith, finance as treasurer, usher, choir, and trustee.

Sadie was known for her loving and generous spirit. She had a heart for helping others and was always willing to lend a hand. Her sense of humor and warm personality endeared her to all who knew her.

Sadie leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of her loved ones, loving daughters, Alecea Q. (Alphonzo) Miller of Dalzell, SC, and Tarshua Teresa (Christopher) Mack of Orangeburg, SC; her devoted sisters, Wilhelmina Jefferson, Richardell Limehouse, Josephine Duncan, and Gwendolyn (Keever) Folk, and Flossie Stevenson; and her beloved companion, Mr. Willie Sapp.

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Tamar Q. Cartwright, Tafiyya C. Williams, Jonathan A. Cartwright, Bethany R. Cartwright, Danae N. Mims (Corey), Saporia Martin-Mack, Morgan S. Mack, and Marcelle E. Mack. Her great-grandchildren: Safiyya Hill, Chelsea Mims, Meme, Cecilia Q. Cooper, Bryson Christopher Mack, and Sakari L. Green.  She also leaves a host of extended family, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, dear friends, and associates, who will forever cherish her memory.

Sadie Queenell Memminger's life was one of faith, love, and service. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
