Sgt. Nathaniel Odom (Retired), 68, of 21130 Highway 3, Blackville, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at Southern Palmetto Hospital, Barnwell. Funeral services for Sgt. Odom, with military honors, will be held at noon Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Frost Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Elko, with the Rev. Joseph Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Sgt. Odom will be placed in the sanctuary of the church an hour prior to the service. Sgt. Nathaniel Odom was born on Sept. 23, 1946, to the late Rosa Amiker and Mr. Carl Clark Sr. and was nurtured to adulthood by his adopted parents, Jacob and Mattie Odom of Blackville. Mr. Odom was educated in the public schools of Blackville and attended the former Denmark Area Trade School (Denmark Technical College). Upon completing his educational endeavors, Nathaniel entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and served his country with pride and patriotism in the Vietnam War, earning the rank of sergeant. Upon completion of active duty with the military, he was employed at Owens Corning of Aiken until his retirement in 2003. Nathaniel was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Patricia Jamison Odom on Aug. 20, 1995, a loving and devoted wife to the very end of his earthly life. Survivors include his wife, of the home, Patricia Odom; three sons, Nathaniel (Darness) Odom, Timothy (Ametra) Odom and Michael (Bridget) Lee; one stepson, Travis Govan; three daughters, Oretha Mayes, Janice Odom and Stephanie Odom; four stepdaughters, Shannor Govan, Cassie (Dewann) Bates, Kristle Govan and Nateil Govan, 34 grandchildren; nine great-grands; three brothes-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the home from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday. Public viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Sacred arrangements are entrusted to the Dash's Funeral Home of Blackville.
