Span Dowling, Jr. a devoted husband and father, was born May 5, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Span and Mary Alice Dowling. Span entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 19, 2019 at Bamberg-Barnwell Emergency Medical Center, Denmark, South Carolina surrounded by his family.

Span was reared in Blackville, South Carolina where he graduated from Macedonia High School. Span was employed as a factory worker for over 30 years and retired from Dayco Products in 2007.

Span was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board and was a member of the Male Chorus. Span took pleasure in fishing with his brothers, vacationing with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

His parents, Span Dowling, Sr., Mary Alice Dowling; brother and sister in law, John (Joyce) Wesley Dowling; sister, Ella Smith; sister in law; Nancy Dowling, two sons; David Boynton and Kenneth Dowling preceded him in death.

Span is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie Dowling; three children, Phillip Dowling of Blackville, Melissa (Robert) Wright of Dorchester, SC, Eric (Rain) Dowling of Graniteville, SC; nine grandchildren, Autumn, Makayla,  Alaina, Marissa, Timothy and Alya Dowling, Zachariah, Taylor and Tyler Wright; three brothers, Benjamin (Dorothy) Dowling of Blackville, SC, Clary (Odalis) of Columbia, SC and Joe (Bobbie) Dowling of Columbia, SC; two goddaughters; Octavia Blocker, Mattielisa Ginn; godson; Micheal Smith and a host a nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
