Funeral services for the late Stella J. Evans will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Blackville, SC.  Viewing for the public will be held on Friday from 2:00- 8:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mrs. Stella J. Evans, was born September 2, 1947 to the late David Johnson and Mary C. Johnson, in Barnwell County, South Carolina.  She succumbed to the calling of her father on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.   Stella was a graduate of Macedonia High School, Class of 1965.  She joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Blackville Community Choir.   She was married to Arthur Woods and to this union, one child was born. In November 24, 1990, she married John P. Evans and moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she became affiliated with Good Shepherd Baptist Church, and was very active in several church ministries.  She remained there until God called her from labor to reward.

She was employed at the Blackville Manufacturing Company in Blackville, SC, continuing the craft of sewing, which became a hobby she loved.   She also worked at Shuron Textron in Barnwell, South Carolina for several years until the plants closing.   In December 2014 she retired from Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina.

Stella was a caring and compassionate person. Her gift for sewing made her an awesome seamstress for many years. She made wedding dresses and other women, men and children's clothing.   When she wasn't sewing, she was singing.  Stella had the voice of an angel.  She loved to sing! To know her was to truly love her.  Someone so special will never be forgotten.

Preceding her in death is her mother, Mary C. Johnson; father, David Johnson and brothers, Freddie Johnson and Pedro Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband, John P. Evans of the home;  one devoted daughter and son-in-law, Pamela (Minister Bruce) Alston, Kennesaw, Georgia; brothers and sisters, Rev. James (Christine) Johnson, Sr., Lillian Harrison, Billy Johnson, Lynda(James) Roberts, Rose(Albert) Raysor all of Blackville, SC and Kelly(JoAnn) Chisolm, New York;  one adopted brother, Joshua Saxton, Blackville, SC; a mother figure to Gloria Wylie, Decatur, Georgia; sisters and brothers- in-law, Carolyn C. Johnson and Carol T. Johnson, Marcus (Gloria) Evans; aunts and uncles, Elbert (Patricia) Crumb, Alvin (Barbara) Crumb, Carolyn (Albert) Poole, Nancy Crumb, Gwen Murph and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
