Funeral services for the late Mrs. Thelma Glover will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at North Orangeburg United Methodist Church located in Orangeburg, SC.  Interment services will follow immediately at Butler Chapel AME Church Cemetery located in Orangeburg, SC.  Viewing for the public will be held on Monday between the hours of 2:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.




Mrs. Thelma C. Whetstone Glover was born on June 13, 1939 to the late Willie Berkley Whetstone and Annie Carmichael Whetstone.  She was the ninth of thirteen children raised in the Jamison Community of Orangeburg County, South Carolina. "Mrs. Thelma" known to most was a loving, caring, nurturing person who never met a stranger and loved everyone she came in contact with and was a mother to many. She departed this earthly life on January 6, 2018 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton, NJ.

She met and married the love of her life Joseph Glover on December 21, 1958.  Their union was blessed with five children and they were married for 53 years until death separated them in 2012.

Mrs. Glover was educated in the Jamison community and graduated from Wilkinson High School class of 1957. She was trained and as a Lay Mid-Wife, and delivered many babies in the Orangeburg community, later going on to graduate from Orangeburg School of Nursing.  She was licensed as a Practical Nurse in 1971. Always wanting to continue her education, Thelma later attended South Carolina State College.

Mrs. Glover worked as a presser at Rush Cleaners in Orangeburg, a Lay Mid-Wife, and a Nursing Assistant for the Orangeburg County Health Department. She was later employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Orangeburg County Health Department, which is now the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.  She also worked for the Orangeburg Nursing Home and the Orangeburg County Detention Center. Mrs. Glover retired from the Health Department and the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

Mrs. Glover was a lifelong member of North Orangeburg United Methodist Church, formerly Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, United Methodist Women, the Senior Choir, Sanctuary Choir, and the Health Care Promoters. She also served as a Certified Lay Servant, a member of the Jolly Seniors and Hearts and Sole of NOUMC.

Mrs. Glover, affectionately known as "Nurse Glover" was past president and member of the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, South Carolina chapter. She was also affiliated with the Concerned Citizens of District 96, worked with the Democratic Party at sub-station 6, Troupe Leader with the Boy Scouts of America (Trinity United Methodist Church) and active with the Orangeburg County Council on Aging. She enjoyed traveling, seeing new places and meeting new people, just recently taking a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Annie Whetstone; husband, Joseph Glover, daughter, Olivia Edmonds; sisters,  Lucille Henderson, Willie Mae Holman, Janet Oliver, Willie Lee Johnson, and Amelia W. Gibson who transitioned on the same day to join the angels and her brothers, George Whetstone Sr., Jasper Whetstone Sr., and Matthew Carmichael.

Left to cherish her loving and precious memories are her children, JoHanna Glover, Lecia (Eric) Bonaparte, Joseph (Karla) Glover all of Orangeburg, SC, Brunson (Jewell) Glover, Hanover, MD, Caleb Glover, Charlotte, NC and Dannie (Sheba) Abraham, Branchville, SC; children reared in the home, Vernita Butler Snead and Delcine R. Summers; grandchildren, Erone Clayton(Paquita) Edmonds, Lawrence (Stephanie) Jones, Ulysses (Santana) Edmonds, Caleb (C'mone) Curry, Gilbert M. Williams II, Quinton (Katrell) Jones, Brittany Edmonds, Robert Edmonds, Brunson D. Glover, Edward (Danielle) Charles, Shannon Glover, Shantell Tiara Glover, Joseph T. Glover II, Mica Glover, DeAndre Robinson, Lonnisha Summers and Danielle Abraham; twenty- six great grandchildren; her siblings, Andrew Whetstone, Booker (Loretta) Whetstone, Jane (Benjamin) Jenkins, and Leeroy (Ethel) Whetstone and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly along with cousins, other family members and friends.
