On May 5, 2013, Deaconess Venell Bannister heard the voice of Jesus say, "I am your great world light, look on me and your morning shall rise and all your day will be bright." On December 26, 1942, Venell was born to the late Sam Frazier and the late Louise Rowe in Bamberg, South Carolina. Venell also received much love and guidance from her late stepfather, Clarence Rowe. Venell graduated from Richard Carroll High School. In 1962, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. Venell met and married her husband of forty-two years, Denver Bannister. They have one daughter, Lisa R. Bannister. Venell retired from Continental Insurance Company. At the early age of twelve, Venell joined Pilgrim Baptist Church, which profoundly influenced her Christian journey and the the importance of fellowship and service. Venell Bannister worshipped at St. Anthony Baptist Church for over forty years. She faithfully and lovingly served as a Sunday school kindergarten teacher. Also, she was a member of both the deaconess and missionary ministries. Venell's favorite scripture was Psalm 100:3. The scripture is an open invitation to enter God's presence. God's faithfulness extends to our generation and beyond. In her spare time, Venell enjoyed music, reading and traveling. Venell was a devoted wife and mother. Celebrating and cherishing her life are her husband, Denver Bannister and daughter, Lisa R. Bannister both of Bronx, New York. She also leaves behind her sister, Lois Best and brother, Jefferson Frazier, both of Rowesville, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Venell is preceded in death by one brother, Louis Frazier.
