Funeral services for the late Mrs. Vermell Davis will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc. Viewing for the public will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Dash's Funeral Home Chapel, Bamberg, South Carolina. Sister Vermell Davis was born on November 24, 1930 to the late James and Malinda Hatchel-Harrison in Blackville, South Carolina. She departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She attended the public schools in Blackville, South Carolina and worked many years as a seamstress in Williston, South Carolina before she retired. At an early age, Vermell was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in July 1953 according to Acts 2:38 and received the gift of the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:4. She was a life long member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ she served as the Choir Director, and the President of the Women's Missionary. She was very devoted to her church. Vermell enjoyed life and she was well known for making the best pound cakes and fried chicken in Barnwell County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Davis; one brother, Frank Harrison; three sisters, Earline Hammonds, Earlest Johnson, and Annie L. (Tiny) Johnson; a nephew, Terence Johnson; one stepsister and three stepbrothers. She leaves to cherish her loving memory a step son, Harold (Dot) Jackson of Stuart, Florida. three step sisters, Betty Matthews of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Helen (Walter) Ray of Lewisville, North Carolina, Bertha Tyler of Blackville, South Carolina; a stepbrother, McKinley Johnson of Delray Beach, Florida; a sister- in -law, Margaret Harrison of Holly Hill, South Carolina; a very special niece/daughter, Beverly Johnson of Denmark, South Carolina. She also leaves to cherish her fond memories her devoted nieces, Princess Johnson, Iesha Brooker and Asia Johnson of Denmark, South Carolina and her great -great -great niece ,Azani Saxon who loved to watch Westerns with her along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
