Funeral services for the late Vernell Batie will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm at St. Peter Baptist Church, Elko, South Carolina. Interment services will follow immediately in the church cemetery.  Viewing for the public will be held on Friday from 10:00 am- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.



Vernell "Ninety-nine" Batie was born in Springfield, South Carolina on April 30, 1945. She was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond Tyler, Sr. and Pernell Abney Tyler of Blackville, South Carolina. God called her home on December 2, 2016.

Vernell attended Blackville Public Schools in Blackville, South Carolina. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and later united with the St. Peter Baptist Church of Elko, South Carolina. She was a member of the Golden Age Club at St. Peter.

She was employed at Blackville Manufacturing, Williston Nursing Home and Skyline. Vernell retired from Allendale & Barnwell Disability Boards.

She was preceded in death by one son, the late Jasper Batie, a grandson, Tequan Cave, a sister, Laura Eady and her brother, Raymond Tyler, Jr.

At a young age, she was united in marriage to the late Cleveland Batie, Sr. This union was blessed with three children.

Vernell leaves to cherish her fond memories - her loving and devoted daughter, Beverly Isaac; one son, Cleveland (Shante') Batie, Jr.; four grandchildren: Bradford, Crystal, Kayce and Shaun; two great grandchildren: Kersten and Khanajhe; three sisters-in-law: Sarah Tyler, Annabea Abney and Daisey (David) Mincy; two uncles; two aunts; one special cousin, J.C. Felder; two adopted sons: Lawrence (Jackie) Coleman and Terrence Jenkins; one goddaughter, Cynthia Dunbar, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
