Vivian Harriet Goodwin Steadman was born on April 5, 1928 to the late Julia and Frank Goodwin in Branchville, SC. She was the youngest of eight siblings that have all preceded her in death. Vivian was a graduate of Richard Carroll High School in Bamberg, SC and South Carolina Area Trade School in Denmark, SC. There she received her cosmetologist degree and became a licensed hair stylist. Vivian opened her first business across from the old Lockett School. In 1952, she married Ernest Steadman and moved her family to New York City with her older sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cardin. After establishing the family on the north east coast, they moved to Stamford, Connecticut. Her next business adventure was established in Portchester, New York and opened as Vivian's Beauty Shoppe and became the style sensation with five stylist employed. Her business and spiritual life flourished under the direction of Rev. Dr. Baxter at Faith and Greater Baptist Church. Vivian's greatest loves were God, family and traveling. She was a world renowned traveler, visiting her family and numerous loved ones in Hawaii, Caribbean, Hong Kong, Shanghai, France, Switzerland, England, Jerusalem, Cairo and many other locations. God blessed Vivian with her only child, Dr. Clarence Goodwin Steadman. Clarence and his wife, Michele gave Vivian two beautiful granddaughters, Danielle Denise and Sarah Michele. Throughout her generous and benevolent long life, she acquired the title, "Mother Steadman". As she touched literally hundreds of cherished ones, she will be greatly missed by all. To name the cherished loved ones, would be too numerous. All knew and loved Mother Steadman. Viewing for the public will be held on Saturday between the hours of 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.
