Life Reflections

Dr. Wanda Nettles, age 66, was born on January 31, 1958, to the late James and Bernice Meeks, Sr. On November 30, 2024, she was called home while at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, SC.

She received her education at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. She furthered her education at Limestone College for her bachelor's degree. She received her Master of Social Work from University of South Carolina. She continued her education with Cappella University to ultimately receive her Doctoral degree.

She joined the St. John Baptist Church in Bamberg, SC at an early age. Later in life she joined St. John Gospel Choir and served on the kitchen auxiliary. Wanda was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Wanda was affectionately known as a giving, kind, and hard-working person. She loved surrounding herself around her family and friends. She loved gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching QVC.

In March 17, 1984, she married the love of her life, Henry Lee Nettles and they have been married for 40 years. From this union, three children were born.

Wanda was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Henry Meeks and Darrell Meeks and one sister, Virgile Smalls.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Henry Lee Nettles of Denmark, SC; three daughters Toni (Eddie) Mason of Memphis Tenn.; Dayonda Nettles of Bamberg, SC and Desiree Nicole (Ty) Byrd of Colorado; one grandson, Cameron Mason; two granddaughters, Hayden Adams and Chloe Mason; seven sisters, Vernell Rice of Denmark, SC, Eva Dowling of Lancaster, SC, Marilyn Haynes, June Meeks, Juanita (Tony) Meeks and Joann Meeks all of Bamberg, SC and Cynthia James of Blackville, SC; three brothers, James (Lessie) Meeks Jr., Ronald (Jeanette) Meeks and Melvin Meeks all of Bamberg, SC; one brother-in-love Micheal Nettles of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-love, Jackie Dees of Brewton, AL and Bernadette Sanders-Meeks of Denmark, SC; and two very special friends, Blanch Johnson of Bamberg, SC and Bernard Haynes of Denmark, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
