Deacon Wayne Johnson, son of the late Deacon George and Deaconess Edna Hiers Johnson
was born on April 10, 1957 in Bamberg County. Deacon Johnson transitioned to a be with Our
Heavenly Father on Monday, May 10, 2021 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg,
South Carolina.
At a very young age, Deacon Johnson was baptized and joined the Thankful Baptist Church,
where he served first as a faithful member and was later ordained as a deacon serving in this
capacity for over thirty years; a faithful and dedicated deacon. He graduated from the Bamberg
-Ehrhardt High School in 1976 and began work in 1977 with Allied Air (formerly known as
Ducane) and worked continuously until his health failed in August 2020. He loved his job and
was a very dedicated and dependable employee. He held a Silver Lifetime Membership with
the National Association for Advancement of Colored People and was a member of Bamberg
Masonic Lodge #40.
He was united in holy matrimony to the former Jannie Connelly, and blessed with a daughter,
Teesa.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Johnson, and brothers, Clarence
and Daniel Johnson. Those to cherish his loving memories include: wife, Jannie Johnson;
daughter, Teesa Brunson; son-in-law, Jamie Brunson; his sunshine, granddaughter, Little Miss
Kennedy Mikelle; brother, David Johnson (fiancé, Priscilla); aunts, Ella Breland and Eunice
Stambildjiev; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
