WILLIAM W. JOHNSON, son of the late Howard and Edry

Johnson, found his place of eternal rest at his home on Monday, February

3, 2020.

He graduated from Richard Carroll High School in 1959 and moved

to New York shortly thereafter. While in New York, he was employed

by various companies and enjoyed his career. His final position was

with New York Transit Authority where he retired after over 25 years

of service.

While in New York, he met the love of his life, the late Arabelle

Aiken Johnson. They enjoyed many years of wedded bliss before returning

to live in Bamberg.

Once they returned to Bamberg, he became active at Bethel United

Methodist Church. He was Chairman of the Trustee Board, a member

of the Men's Choir, where he led many songs; janitor, professional landscaper,

and did whatever else that was needed. Everything he did was

to uplift the kingdom of God.

He was an avid gardener and farmer who loved the outside; he loved

to see things grow. In addition to serving as the landscaper at the

Church, he also practiced his craft throughout the community and Bamberg

County.

William had a special love and interest in old cars and farm machinery.

He could be seen cruising around town in his latest purchase -- a

gray Mustang. And while he was driving, he was dressed like someone

out of a fashion magazine.

In addition, he was an active member of Richard Carroll's Class of

1959 where he also wore many hats. For over 25 years, William looked

forward to helping plan the annual class dance, which was held every

Christmas night. People from near and far attended and always had a

good time.

He leaves to mourn his passing: Wanda (Darian) Fields, daughter

and grandson Herschel Fields of the home; Ashley (Lionel) Neals,

granddaughter; Darius and Asia, great-grandchildren, both of Decatur,

Georgia; two loving sisters, Barbara McMillan, Bamberg, South Carolina

and Sandra Johnson, Capitol Heights, Maryland; a brother,

Howard Johnson, Jr., Orangeburg, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law,

Elizabeth (Maybe) Aiken, Beaufort, South Carolina; Elizabeth Aiken,

Queens, New York; and Louise Aiken, Bamberg, South Carolina; Goddaughter,

Karen McMillan, Irmo, South Carolina; and numerous nieces,

nephews, cousins, and friends.

William had a pleasing personality and a loving spirit, which will be

greatly missed by his family, his church family, members of the Orange

Grove Community, and friends.
